The Venetian Gondolas

In the middle of the glitzy metropolis that is Vegas, is a heavenly slice of Europe.  The Venetian is as authentically Italian as Venice.  From the blue sky painted ceilings, that make you feel like you are outdoors, to the beautifully hand painted gondolas.

Drawn in by the operatic gondoliers, my husband and I decided on the indoor gondola experience.  We then had approximately 15 minutes of serenading by one Roberto as he traversed the Venetian's Grand Canal Shoppes.  So romantic and an experience like no other and we were lucky to see another couple getting married in the gorgeous white and gold wedding gondola .  We were prompted to kiss under each bridge, as is the Italian tradition and were thoroughly entertained with romantic ballads and anecdotes.

After our very special ride we enjoyed a gelato and stood on one of the bridges and took in the atmosphere while we listened to other couples being serenaded.  Such a memorable experience from the farthest corner of the world that you would expect it.

The Gondolas at the Venetian are the perfect get away from the craziness of the Strip.  For lovers and families alike, the Gondolas are a must.

Rita Rudner at The Venetian

The hilarious Rita Rudner’s show is a must see when you visit Vegas.  In theatre style seating, the entire audience are kept in stitches while Rita delivers line after line with her seasoned timing and comic sarcasm.

Bestselling author Rita, is immaculate and glamorous, sporting giant rocks on her fingers and sparkling, towering high heels and steers the audience through many a day in her private life, from shopping outings, to personal details about her husband.  Charming and uproariously funny, you leave this show wishing it hadn’t ended. with that warm glow you get from laughing really, REALLY hard and feeling as though you have made at the very least a new friend.

You can catch Rita Rudner nightly at 8.30pm at The Venetian.
Ticket Prices start at $49.

Recycled Percussion at the Tropicana

Oh my God, these guys are fantastic.  I was going to write a civilised music review piece, but Recycled Percussion are just too good to be civilised.

From the moment they descend upon the stage playing their instruments upside down and hanging from the ceiling, the entire audience is awestruck.  Recycled Percussion (former America’s Got Talent finalists), are hard core musicians and serious entertainers.  These guys dance, juggle drumsticks, jump off ladders and play drums and guitar like nobody on earth.

When you arrive at the theatre, you are given a set of drumsticks and a piece of recycled trash (such as an old pot or rubbish bin lid) and then you are seated at tables and encouraged to join in at intervals in the interactive show.  I’ve never had so much fun and was thoroughly entertained.  We enjoyed meeting the band after the show, who were more than happy to sign autographs and have pictures taken and then my husband and I played our ‘air drums’ all the way up the Strip.  You absolutely must see these guys.  Good clean fun for the whole family.

Mob Attraction at the Tropicana

If the Mob Attraction is anything like it’s predecessor the Las Vegas Mob Experience, then you are in for an experience indeed.

Each guest is given a mobster identity and then taken through a fun interactive story sequence.  The world of organised crime is portrayed through a series of artefacts, live characters and apparitions.  It’s like nothing we’ve ever seen before.  The personal possessions of mobsters like Bugsy Segal are on display and a behind the scenes film of the making of the Godfather is showing on a loop.

We left there with visions of gangsters and were desperate to see the Godfather trilogy.  Now whenever we think of Vegas, we remember its’ rich ‘mobster’ history.
